Welcome to my
spearfishing page. This is dedicated to spearfishing and freediving in New Zealand.
As you will see, I have included some of my favourite catches, along with some notable
catches of my friends.
On occasion I will include photo's and information about interesting going's on in the
Kapiti Coast.

If you are looking
for a place to spend your next holiday, I would highly recommend Rarotonga
in the South Pacific. The visibility is amazing, with an abundance of
pelagic fish to be had year round. The first thing you will notice if you
ask to go spearfishing, is a lack of experienced skippers that have
freediving experience. I was lucky enough to stumble upon Terry from
Reef to Sea, with only a couple of days left of my holiday. He runs a
snorkelling operation that takes snorkellers of any experience level outside
the lagoon by boat, to see the wonders of the open ocean. My girlfriend
thoroughly enjoyed herself, even though it was her first time snorkelling.
Terry is also available to take spearfishing charters. Places to visit
would be the FADs, and some of the numerous dropoffs around the island. The
targeted species are Dogtooth Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi mahi, Barracuda, and there
is always the possibility of Marlin.
I have misplaced the number for Terry, but he can be contacted by email:

Where I dive
Almost every weekend,
and quite often after work, I will go for a spearfish somewhere around Kapiti Island. This
island is a nature reserve, with access to it by permit only. It also has a substantial
marine reserve, which is doing a great job of restocking the rest of the island. Kapiti is
7km off shore, and as such is only a quick ride out by boat. Due to the varying terrain, I
have certain spots for catching certain species.
I have included a
map of these spots, and also a picture of the Kapiti region.
Also included for your reference is a
marine map of Kapiti Island and the
fishing regulations for the region.
